Seinäjoen Lyseo

Seinäjoen lyseo is a junior high that gives basic education for 7th, 8th and 9th grade (pupils aged 13–16). There are about 500 pupils and 60 teachers in our school. The motto of our work is Together we are more.

In lyseo one group in every grade is specialized in music. These groups give concerts and have many performances during the school year. Lyseo specializes also in bilingual education (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and one group in every grade is taught partly in English in some subjects.

Besides this, Lyseo offers preparatory education (VALO) for pupils who have recently arrived in Finland or have arrived before school age or for children born in Finland who are not yet able to study in the basic education class due to a lack of Finnish language skills.

Lyseo is located next to Aalto center, which has offered an opportunity to specialize as an Alvar Aalto school.

Our school cooperates actively with different partners e.g. different town services, various associations and enterprises. Lyseo tries to broaden its learning environment towards the surrounding society and to offer the students the possibility to develop their career readiness and life skills. In 2014 Seinäjoen lyseo was awarded the quality prize for entrepreneurship by the University of Warwick, England.

International co-operation has also become a natural part of our schoolwork and Lyseo has participated in several international projects and mobilities. The most recent Erasmus+ project was RASI (Raising Aspirations for Social Inclusion) in 2018–2020.
