Niemistö School
Niemistö School is a primary school located in the Niemistönmaa area, within the cultural landscape of Alajoki. The school is situated about five kilometres from the city centre in the direction of Ylistaro. It is surrounded by open fields and forest areas. The surroundings of Niemistöntie and Heikkiläntie form a regionally significant built cultural environment with landscape, architectural, and historical value.
Niemistö Primary School began its operations in 1895, and the wooden school building still in use today was constructed in 1897. The new school building, the current stone school, was completed at the end of the 1950s. The school was renovated in 2009, during which it also received a new gym and a dining hall. The first and second classes study in a shared building with Niemistö Daycare Centre. The extension of the facilities was completed in 2023. The number of pupils at Niemistö school is growing.
The operating principle of Niemistö School is “On the side of the city, in the middle of the village, our school educates everybody.”
