Halkosaari School
History
Halkosaari operated under the municipal administration of the Municipality of Isokyrö until 1954 when the outer edges of Isokyrö were merged with the Municipality of Ylistaro. A few areas were also merged with the Municipalities of Ilmajoki and Nurmo. This led to our school district becoming smaller. The old school in Halkosaari was built in 1934.
The Halkosaari school was threatened with closure in 1981 when sellers willing to sell the plot emerged from Halkosaari. Negotiations were held with the municipality, which resulted in the development of Hemminki-Takala, now known as the Santi residential area, which was quickly inhabited. As a result, the municipality acquired more land, and the Rantala residential area was developed. Since then, the residential areas of Pollari, Kuninkaansaari and Uitontie have been formed.
Current Situation
The first extension of the school was completed in 1992 when an entirely new building was built in the same yard as the daycare centre. As the population of Halkosaari village increased, the school was further expanded between 2008-2009 to reach its current form At the same time, the municipalities of Ylistaro, Nurmo and Seinäjoki were merged. The school was opened in its stunning new premises in January 2010, and the inauguration of the new school was celebrated on November 23, 2010.
The school expanded to include eight classrooms. The new premises included a woodworking classroom, a shared music, visual arts and textile crafts classroom, as well as small new teaching facilities to meet the needs of e.g.special needs education.
In 2016, the pupils from Kitinoja School became part of our school. By the 2020s, the number of pupils attending the school is approximately 130-150 pupils.
