Youth services staff work closely with various schools. The goal is to meet and reach all young people in the area. Youth work in schools is preventive work aimed at supporting and developing the school’s sense of community and improving school wellbeing.

Collaboration with schools has taken its own form at each school. The main focus of the activities is in lower secondary schools, where staff visit once or twice a week during lunch breaks to run a café and organize various recess activities. Staff also visit upper secondary institutions with coffee thermoses to greet young people. Nurmo Lower Secondary School, Seinäjoki Lyseo and Seinäjoki Upper Secondary School each have their own school youth workers who work at the school a few days a week.

Every autumn we take part in orientation days for seventh graders to help build and strengthen class groups so that their shared school journey can start as smoothly as possible. This kind of group-building activity and various small-group activities are held for other classes when needed. We also invite classes to visit our youth centres.

We are often involved in school events and give lessons on various topics, such as summer job information sessions. Youth work in schools is largely carried out in collaboration with church youth ministry and other collaboration organizations.
