Here Jhan Lucio for the last time. When I arrived in Seinäjoki, everything was new: the language, the weather, the customs… and me. As the days went by, I realized that living an Erasmus experience is not just about changing cities, but about learning to navigate a completely different environment, adapting, and above all, growing.
One of the first things this city taught me was how to understand time. And I don’t just mean the weather (although that too) but the calm rhythm of the days, the value of silent moments, the joy of biking through snowy paths or sitting in a sauna at sunset. I learned to enjoy that slow pace, with no rush, but steady.
I also learned that kindness doesn’t require many words. Even without speaking Finnish, I was always met with a smile, a helping hand, a kind gesture. Everyone I met here was welcoming, respectful, and genuinely cared about making me feel at home, despite the cultural differences.
A very meaningful part of this journey was assisting in Spanish classes across different institutions in the city. From a kindergarten to an adult learning group, each experience taught me something special. It was heartwarming to see the children’s curiosity about my language, their active participation, and how they tried to speak Spanish with excitement. Teaching adults was also a great learning opportunity, it allowed me to share experiences and reflect together from our unique perspectives.
I also had the chance to take part in local events, like helping organize the Vappu celebration for the City Hall. Being involved in such a traditional Finnish celebration made me feel proud and connected to the community.
I’m leaving Seinäjoki with a full heart. I’ve learned, I’ve taught, and most importantly, I’ve lived. This city showed me that sometimes you don’t need to understand everything to feel good in a place, you just need to be open, stay curious, and let yourself be surprised.
Kiitos, Seinäjoki. Moi Moi.
