Development of the station area

The first phase of the Seinäjoki station area opened in December 2024. The station is a public transport hub as well as a workplace and home for hundreds of people. It is only a couple hundred metres from the station building to Keskustori (the Central Square).

The construction of the blocks on the town centre side of the station area is divided into four phases. The first construction phase includes the wellbeing area’s family centre, a residential apartment building, an office and commercial building containing the station hall, the station square and an underpass, and a five-storey parking garage (P-Asema). Two more residential apartment buildings will be built later.

Over the coming years the station area will be developed across approximately 18 hectares.

Bringing density and livability to the city centre

While developers raise the city to a more urban landscape and provide homes for new residents, the City of Seinäjoki is enhancing the centre’s livability. A pavilion has been completed at Keskustori to serve various events. A completely unique space-themed playground has been built for children. Lakeudenpuisto is being transformed into an event park, which includes, among other things, a skate park. A stage area for performances is also planned. The park connects to the station via a walking route (Elissanpolku) through the new apartment block.

As a commercial area the centre is becoming denser. Restaurants, cafés, shops and services are all within a few hundred metres. Traffic planning ensures that moving around the centre is easy and safe by all modes of transport and also supports the development of commerce.

The strong growth of the Roves business area continues

Roves is one of Finland’s most significant business areas. Nearly 500 companies operate in the area. The attractive industrial area is located along the major roads VT18 and VT19 and is served by five railway connections.

In Roves plot sizes range from 3,000 to 80,000 m², with prices starting at €5/m². The new industrial area extension is a direct continuation of the developing Roves logistics area. The area has excellent logistics services. You can refuel both diesel and gas-powered vehicles, including LBG and CBG trucks and cars.

Seinäjoki Airport on the rise

Seinäjoki Airport is taking off in many ways. Most of the approximately €1.4 million funding for 2022–2025 is in place, Finnhems has built a rescue helicopter base in the area, charter and holiday flights operate regularly, Dronamics is preparing to start unmanned cargo flights, and Sedu is developing its logistics education.

What is Seinäjoki Airport today?

  • Operates year-round, 24/7 as part of the national infrastructure, ready to serve both defence and national security of supply needs when required.
  • The emergency medical helicopter base strengthens the airport’s foothold as a permanent part of the area’s services and infrastructure.
  • From Seinäjoki a gateway to same-day cargo deliveries to Europe opens through Dronamics’ logistics network. Seinäjoki Airport is currently Finland’s only Dronamics contract airfield.
  • Logistics education is provided at Sedu’s campus at the airport. The training cooperation brings synergy and a new model for combining airport operations, education and working life. Going forward, Sedu will also develop on-the-job learning cooperation with Seinäjoen Lentoasema Oy, for example in airfield maintenance and servicing.
  • Regular airfield for business and charter flights. These services are used by, among others, local industrial companies, large music events, and the international customers of Kuortane Sports Institute and other service and tourism companies.
