Living in Seinäjoki is affordable
According to the Finnish Detached House Association’s 2025 survey, Seinäjoki has the lowest housing costs in Finland. The study compared municipality- and area-specific charges for a standardized so-called model detached house. The study included 100 municipalities, covering 84% of Finland’s population (situation on 31 December 2024).
The study examined the following municipal charges:
- Property tax (building + plot)
- Heating (electricity)
- Household electricity
- Water charges (domestic, wastewater, and stormwater, including fees charged by both the water utility and the municipality)
- Waste charges (mixed waste, combustible waste or equivalent municipal waste + biowaste + any basic, i.e. eco fee)
Municipality-/area-specific housing costs do not take into account mortgage repayments, loan interest costs, home insurance, security services, or repair costs.
The total for electricity, water and waste charges and property tax in Seinäjoki is €4,554, while the average in the municipalities was €5,836 per year.
