Tips from Tuomas Viitasaari, Maintenance Manager of Seinäjoki City Sports Services, for enjoying nature:

  1. Jouppilanvuori‘s eight-kilometre mountain bike trail is available to cyclists year-round. Cycling is possible in winter too, because we groom the trail to top condition with a motorized tracked machine together with the local cycling and triathlon club Ride Etelä-Pohjanmaa and the bike shop Cycli. The trail starts next to the parking area at the end of Jouppilanvuorentie.
  2. Gym training is familiar to many, but if you want to take your workout outdoors from time to time, you’ll find a Street Workout outdoor gym at the start area of the Jouppilanvuori cross-country trail. More outdoor gyms can be found next to the Kyrkösjärvi artificial turf field, at the Hyllykallio fitness track, and along the riverside route in the city centre in the Frami area.
  3. If you’re after relaxing walks and natural tranquillity, the Paukaneva boardwalk trail is definitely worth a visit. The nature trail is about seven kilometres long. You can walk around five kilometres on boardwalks. There are several rest and information points along the route. The signs vividly explain the area’s nature and history. It’s a good idea to bring a packed lunch too, because the trail has a lean-to shelter and a campfire site. There is also a dry toilet! The birdwatching platform and the observation tower are favourites among birders, but of course anyone can enjoy them. You can reach Paukaneva from the Jokiranta starting point, which is located at the rest area along Highway 18 (Seinäjoki–Vaasa), four kilometres north of Seinäjoki.
