Seinäjoki has been a city of experiential outdoor activities since 2009. In 2005 Lakeuden elämysliikunta ry began leading various route projects implemented around Jouppilanvuori and Kyrkösjärvi. The city was happy to support them. The enthusiasm of the industrious volunteer group was convincing. Things began to happen quickly.

Nature exercise in Seinäjoki is accessible to everyone, right near the city centre. The area has several routes, including a children’s route, a mountain biking and trail running track, a barefoot path and accessible routes. Along the routes there are rest and campfire spots, and a nature house on the lakeshore. One of the most popular destinations is the experience stairs next to the Jouppilanvuori ski resort

The newest experiential destination is the 170 kilometers long Seinäjoki hiking route implemented by the city. It runs from Ylistaro to Peräseinäjoki. There is no specific start or end point on the route and you can set off from anywhere along it. The Seinäjoki hiking route largely follows the nature trail built in 1998. The route has been refurbished and partly renewed.
