Noora Kivimäki moved to Seinäjoki with her family. She found a job as a communications teacher at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. Noora has discovered many hobbies in Seinäjoki, but she is also interested in new ideas. Tanja Särkipaju from the city’s sports services gives her tips.

Tanja Särkipaju, Head of Sports Services for the City of Seinäjoki:

Welcome to Seinäjoki, Noora, with your family! You’ve already found a CrossFit hobby here. Seinäjoki can rightly be called a city of opportunities for active people. We plan and organize physical activity for all kinds of people. Hopefully you’ll find options in our wide selection that are just right for you and your family.

  1. There are sports clubs in Seinäjoki for every interest. From the city’s sports services pages you can find information about them and many other current topics. From the guided exercise pages you’ll get great tips for things like family exercise, water exercise groups and children’s favourite events. The good thing about guided exercise is that you also meet nice people there.
  2. Also follow our Tilaa Liikkua Facebook group. There you will find a comprehensive list of sports events. You’ll see what’s happening in the city.
  3. The Jouppilanvuori area is a treasure trove for active people. The area offers great hiking opportunities, with a variety of trails. On the longer routes you’ll even find lean-tos, such as on Seinäjoki’s own hiking trail that opened last year. City residents have also enthusiastically taken to the fitness stairs located next to the Joupiska slope centre. And with good reason — they’re a source of pride and joy for the whole city. The whole project was built through volunteer work, known locally as “kökkä”.
  4. You can skate in Seinäjoki in many forms. On Kalajärvi a long-distance skating track is frozen during winter: retkiluistelurata. Head there if you’re interested in the discipline. At the Ice Sports Centre‘s large artificial ice rink you can get some skating practice from the beginning of November onwards.
