Former truck driver Hanna Salonen moved to Seinäjoki and completely reinvented her life. Now she is studying to become a financial administration professional and enjoys her free time with her new spouse. Curious about everything, Hanna wants to find meaningful activities for her leisure time, so she is getting tips from Satu Keski-Valkama of the Seinäjoki City Theatre and Teppo Latvanen of the Seinäjoki Adult Education Centre.

Satu Keski-Valkama, Sales and Marketing Manager of Seinäjoki City Theatre:

Welcome to Seinäjoki, Hanna! You have probably already received our city’s welcome greeting, which includes a two-for-one offer to a performance at the Seinäjoki City Theatre. Many people who move to Seinäjoki take advantage of this offer valid for the year. Hopefully you and your spouse will too!

Here are some reasons to visit our city theatre:

  1. At the theatre you can escape everyday life — experience emotions, be entertained, be moved and laugh. We also offer people learning experiences, ideas and ways to reflect on their own lives. We have around six to eight premieres a year, some of which are world premieres written for our theatre. Our programming considers all ages, and we offer high-quality theatre experiences for fans of suspense, drama, musical theatre and comedy alike. Also check out our side events, such as the popular backstage tours and free play introductions, which let you dive deeper into theatre beyond the surface.
  2. We are the theatre for the whole region and the area’s most significant cultural institution. When you visit the theatre you can experience the handiwork of master architect Alvar Aalto in everything from doorknobs to light fixtures. The imposing building houses a cozy theatre community that audiences easily find approachable, a point of pride for the whole city.
  3. Remember, Hanna, to take care of yourself amid all your busyness. The theatre offers an opportunity for that. You can focus and give time to your own thoughts and open the doors of your heart to new worlds. Welcome to the theatre!

Teppo Latvanen, Principal of the Adult Education Centre:
Congratulations, Hanna, on finding study again in adulthood. The core values of adult education are lifelong learning and supporting citizenship. You too will contribute to realizing these values. Completing a degree is surely demanding with all the life changes involved, but also extremely rewarding. When you finish your studies, I am sure your enthusiasm for learning won’t fade. From our Adult Education Centre you can find many options for this and future stages of your life, as it’s good for you to find balancing elements for your everyday life alongside studying or working. Remember to use the benefit we offer new residents, which gives you a 40-euro discount on the course of your choice!

  1. Each academic year about 10,000 students study with us, and we offer roughly a thousand courses in total. For someone moving to Seinäjoki, our educational offerings are an excellent way to meet other people and maintain your own well-being. What could be more interesting than learning, thinking and developing in good company. The courses cover many different subject areas. You can participate in our activities in various parts of the city. I would say that our course offerings reflect the whole spectrum of life. So everyone will find their own area of interest. And according to our statistics most people find many.
  2. From our study programme you can find our full offering. If course-based studying is too binding for you, you will find many short courses, lectures and various events with us. The content is updated continuously, but the basic framework remains year after year. You can join any of our events, occasions and courses throughout the year.
  3. Ohjaava Opisto offers a viewpoint into our premises. If you are coming to a course or are considering organizing an event, the site gives you a taste of our functional and pleasant facilities. Welcome to take a look!
