I have only been in Seinäjoki for a few days and what the city has offered me has surprised me in a good way. Hi, I’m Jhan Lucio, I’m 23 years old and I’m an Erasmus student from Spain and I will be in Seinäjoki for a couple of months to do my internship.
I knew little about Finland and it was one of the reasons why I chose this country as a destination. I was very curious about its culture and ways of doing things and why it has been “The happiest country in the world” for more than 8 years in a row.
Just the first day of starting my internship I was given a bicycle in which I could ride around the city, this means of transport opened a range of possibilities, one of the first things I noticed at the beginning was how easy it is to move in this city and especially by bike, as it has pedestrian paths everywhere and makes moving around the city is very safe. It is great to be able to move around the city and enjoy its landscapes, feeling the fresh air on your face. Also, the city is quite quiet, which makes walking through the streets a relaxing experience.
In these first days I have tried to visit different areas, and one of the most recent places was the Seinäjoki Museum, which just this weekend had an exhibition of the National Museum of Finland, I took the opportunity to visit the park that was nearby and I loved all its distribution, the museum has an exhibition on the history of the city and its inhabitants, its transformation thanks to the architect Alvar Aalto.

Another thing I am enjoying the most is the amount of green spaces in Seinäjoki, there is a path next to the river that is simply beautiful and cycling through it has been wonderful, the city itself can be cycled through, one of the most important factors if you want to take care of the planet and take care of your health. I still have a lot to explore and visit, but one thing is clear to me and that is that in Seinäjoki people are very friendly and very welcoming, with a lot to discover and perfect to move freely. I am sure that this Erasmus experience will make me learn a lot about the Finnish culture that compared to Spain we are totally different.
