Social work for Adults

Subsistence Subsidy

Subsistence subsidy (also: Income Support/ Maintenance Grant) is an individual, temporary and last-resort support, which completes other benefits. It is meant for situations in which earned income and means do not cover reasonable costs of living. An applicant must actively try to improve his/her living, for example, by trying to find a job, work try-outs at workplaces or apply for a placement at vocational schools.

In most cases, the one entitled to receive the subsidy is an adult person who is in need of support and cannot earn a living with their income, entrepreneurial activities, other income or assets, or with the help of other benefits entitled to him/her (for example: unemployment benefit, housing allowance, study grant or loan, and child maintenance). As a rule, subsistence subsidy is applied for in writing. Application forms are available in Seinäjoki at the information desk of the Social Services office and in Peräseinäjoki at the service office. It can also be printed here:

The application is sent by post to the address ”Seinäjoen sosiaali- ja terveyskeskus, PL 229, (visiting address: Kirkkokatu 8 C, 3rd floor), 60101 Seinäjoki”, or handed in personally at the information desk or at the Peräseinäjoki service office, PL 5, (Keikulinkuja 1), 61101 Peräseinäjoki.
