Seinäjoki has a strong agricultural sector and a living countryside
In Seinäjoki, there are more than 880 operating farms, with some 32.000 ha of cultivated fields. The sales revenue from agricultural produce amounts to more than 40 million Euros. There are 270 animal husbandry farms, and some 250 farms have other business activities besides agriculture (such as machine contract work, the metal and wood sectors, assembly, rural tourism, etc.). Forestry lands total 91.000 ha.
The prerequisites for development of agriculture and farming for years to come are supported e.g. through land use planning. The region of Seinäjoki is renowned as a national-level centre for the food industry, as a Food Province.

Farmers' substitute services are provided by the Municipal Substitute Services of Jalasjärvi.
