Basic Education in the Arts

Basic education in the arts is goal-oriented, progressing from one level to the next and especially aimed at children and young people. It aims to give students the skills required to express themselves, support creative thinking and actions as well as to promote sensitivity and empathy, and also to develop study and cooperation skills. At the same time, the student's growth, self-development and the ability to categorise the world around them become stronger.

Basic education in the arts also enables application to the vocational or university college-level education of the art in question. Besides the law and decree concerning it, the basic education in the arts is based on the curriculum accepted by the Finnish National Board of Education.

At the adult education centre of Seinäjoki, you can study the general curriculum in the basic education of arts in visual arts (art school Taidekoulu Oiva), theatre (Kurpitsateatteri) and rhythmic music (Rytmi-instituutti). In the school year 2012-2013, Oiva had 244 students, the theatre studies in Kurpitsa had 70 students, and 131 students attended Rytmi-instituutti.
